The Associazione Musicale Estense actively participated in the Bononcini & Corelli Project, conceived with the Municipality of Fusignano, the leader, and shared with the Municipality of Zocca, with the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region and private sponsors. The project provided for the training of young musicians, concerts, musicological research. Since 2012, also thanks to the support of the Municipality of Zocca and private contributions, the Association has been able to inaugurate the Bononcini Project by expanding its training and enhancement activities for music linked to the former Este territories and focused on the musicians of the Bononcini family, and in the 2013 integrated with the similar project linked to Arcangelo Corelli.

Fusignano (birthplace of Arcangelo Corelli), is the fulcrum of the musical tradition of Romagna d'Este (tourist denomination of the union of the Municipalities of Lower Romagna). During the twentieth century Fusignano produced leading conferences, publications and concert events, in particular by carrying out (since 1968) the International Congress of Corellian Studies (of which 7 editions were held). The Bononcini & Corelli Project aimed to enhance the Emilia-Romagna instrumental school which played an important role in the development of the Italian instrumental school of the Baroque era, in particular for the violin and the cello. Uccellini, Vitali, the Bononcini, Degli Antonii, Corelli etc. are all famous composers and at the same time excellent instrumentalists, in various capacities linked to the Este court or in any case to the regional territory and European reputation. The two main exponents of the Bononcini family, Giovanni Maria born in Montecorone (Zocca) and Giovanni (born in Modena), are therefore at the center of the development of the Italian instrumental school. Following the multi-year collaboration with Fusignano, which in 2013 made it possible to carry out an important conference dedicated to the 300 years since the death of Arcangelo Corelli (Congress Arcomelo 2013), the Bononcini & Corelli Project has set itself the goal of strengthening the regional reading of the musical experience baroque creating an axis between Zocca, Fusignano and the Estense Music Association. The project provided for the training of the youngest and musicians, concerts, musicological research. The masterclass held in Montombraro extended the theme of the Emilia Romagna instrumental school to Corelli.
